Washington Area Musicians
Hold Concerts for Hurricane Relief

December 27 & 28 2005

Three hurricane benefit concerts
featuring some of the area's greatest musicians.

The Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) will host three benefit concerts the last week of December to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, focusing on musicians most hurt by the disaster.

The concerts will be held at Iota, in Arlington, VA; Jammin' Java, in Vienna, VA; and Chick Hall's Surf Club, in Bladensburg, MD, and will feature a diverse and local mix including Eric Brace, Daryl Davis, Hula Monsters, Billy Hancock, Thrillbillys, A Month of Sundays, Fools and Horses, and Practically Einstein. Each concert will have door prizes donated by local businesses.

All proceeds will go to non-profit groups assisting Katrina victims in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.

WAMA president and executive director Mike Schreibman said, "Musicians and club owners in the DC-area are very concerned about their counterparts in the Gulf region, and these concerts are their chance to help." Schreibman added that so many WAMA members volunteered to perform that there will probably be more concerts after the New Year. Concert organizer and musician Ruthie Logsdon said, "We're just doing our small part to help people who need it. Many of us learned from gigging over the years that small things do add up. Also, I know a lot of people will agree that there's a certain feeling of elation you get when you help people in crisis."
